On the famous avenue of Rio’s carnival parade, women are often scantily clad dancers or muses, rarely participating as musicians and almost never in the most important roles. In front of the drums, the singers are always groups of men with powerful voices. And those in charge of operations are almost always men. Equality is still far from being achieved, but change is starting to happen. Report by Fanny Lothaire and Louise Raulais and Jan Onoszko.
