German police said on Friday that a man was badly wounded in an assault, “possibly with a sharp object”, at central Berlin’s Holocaust memorial near the US embassy.
“A man was seriously injured by an unknown person” there, the police said on X, adding that “rescue workers are caring for several people on site who had to witness the events”.
Berlin police said the victim was seriously injured around 6pm and taken to a hospital.
Police said they were investigating the stabbing at the memorial, a field of 2,700 gray concrete slabs near the Brandenburg Gate in the heart of Berlin.
The attacker is still at large, and police have said they have no indications as to the motive behind the attack.
