After nearly 6 decades in power, since independence in 1966,  the Botswana Democratic Party won only four parliamentary seat. Voters delivered a shock defeat to the party. Duma Boko of the Umbrella for Democratic Change will replace President Mokgweetsi Masisi, who conceded defeat.

It took 67 years for French president Emmanuel Macron to acknowledge that Larbi Ben M’hidi, a key figure in Algeria’s War of Independence against France, had been killed by French soldiers after his arrest in 1957. The admission comes on the 70th anniversary of the “Toussaint Rouge”.. a day which marked the start of Algeria’s war for independence. 

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, health authorities have launched a campaign to vaccinate against malaria. It’s a milestone in the central African country, where malaria kills tens of thousands of people a year.
