Plus, Japan held its first auction of fin whales in nearly 50 years, where a part of meat fetched a record 200,000 yen (1,240 euros) per kilo. Commercial hunting of this species became legal this year, but despite efforts to revive the industry, demand for whale meat has dwindled in recent years.
